Sonia Kashuk Blending Sponge Review

I should preface this by saying that I do not often wear liquid foundation. I have been trying for months to find a way to apply it that I like. Fingers are easy, but I don't like getting my hands dirty. Brushes are ok, but sometimes leave streaks and, I don't know if it's just me, but when I use a brush to apply my foundation, I end up with way too much! I do like using the wedge cosmetic sponges and this has been my favorite means of applying liquid foundation. Until now.....

Enter the Sonia Kashuk blending sponge! This funny looking sponge is the greatest thing I've tried for applying foundation. 
I was contemplating splurging on a beauty blender, but I just couldn't see spending $20 on one make up sponge! I found the SK sponge on clearance, at Target, for $6.95 and it also came with a small sponge/brush cleanser! Score! Ulta also has a version of this sponge.


 Sponges like this make applying make up faster and easier. The curved edges prevent streaking and the pointed tip make it easy to apply and blend in smaller areas, like around the nose. Because you use them wet, these sponges absorb less of your makeup, thus you use less.
I was skeptical that this would be much different from a regular cosmetic sponge. The SK sponge feels heavier and much more dense, and dry is about the size of the palm of my hand. Wet, the sponge expands a little and becomes softer and more pliable. The area used to apply makeup is considerably bigger, which makes applying and blending my foundation much faster.


To use, first wet the sponge. You can run it under the water faucet to fully saturate it, or I just spray it a few time with a small water bottle that I keep with my makeup. Squeeze out excess water. You want the sponge to be damp, not sopping.
Dab the bottom of the sponge into your foundation. Bounce, or stipple the sponge on your face. 
Continue blending until your desired effect is achieved. You can also use a rolling motion to blend in your foundation. 


To clean spray with brush cleanser or a use a dab of baby shampoo and rinse under running water. Continue squeezing and rinsing until the water runs clear. I'd say that the cleaning is the only 'con' of this sponge. It can take a while to clean, but the more often you clean it, the easier it is. 


It really is as easy as that. This sponge makes me want to wear liquid foundation more. If you are on the fence about this sponge or the similar ones, I say go for it! I don't think you'll regret it :)
